How the pool grows: seed and drop
Every progressive jackpot starts from an initial floor, the seed — the minimum prize value the provider sets before the jackpot resets and begins accumulating again from zero. From there, a fixed slice of every wager placed on the game (or the network of games) feeds the pool, typically between 0.5% and 2% of the amount staked. If a thousand players each wager R$ 10 on a slot with a 1% jackpot contribution, the pool grows by R$ 100 across that batch of rounds, adding to whatever accumulated since the last prize was paid out. The moment the prize is actually paid to a player is called the drop — it can be a random trigger built into the RNG, a specific symbol combination, or a target value that, once reached, forces the payout before a defined ceiling.
That mechanic creates an important dynamic: the longer it goes without a drop, the larger the accumulated pool grows, and that alone raises the game's appeal to players — the visibly growing prize is part of the product, not a side effect.

A local jackpot gives the operator complete visibility into how much is accumulating and being paid out, which simplifies accounting. A networked jackpot grows faster and pays larger prizes, but the individual operator does not control or even see the pool's behavior in isolation — it is sharing risk and reward with other operations connected to the same provider.
Who actually pays the prize: operator or provider?
This is the contractual point that causes the most confusion. In most models, it is the game provider, not the operator, who covers the jackpot payout — after all, the provider is the one running the RNG, managing the accumulated pool, and controlling the drop trigger, often across multiple operations at once in a networked jackpot. The operator's role is to correctly forward the contribution embedded in each wager and to complete the player's identity verification and anti-fraud checks before releasing a large withdrawal. Even so, the integration contract deserves a close read: some local jackpot arrangements, especially in turnkey setups where the operator runs its own infrastructure, shift part or all of the payout responsibility onto the operator if the pool reconciliation fails — a financial risk that needs to be spelled out before signing, not discovered the moment a player hits the prize.
